What I learned from spending a couple of hours with some skateboarders

My daughter feels for skating like I have always felt for horses. She loves it. She wants to go skateboarding as soon as the earth dries up after the winter, she is watching skate videos from YouTube and fixing on different skateboards many hours in the weekends.

When we went to shop for a new skateboard at Ponkées the guys in the store told us that there is an Indoor arena and that we should join the class that they will have there for girls.

So we went to Kontulan skeittihalli early on Saturday and I have hardly ever seen my daughter shine up the way she did when we approached the place.

And what I saw there was something really nice. These guys were so

Positive and Happy

They were laughing and welcoming all of us with open arms. There was also an amazing

Community

And everyone seemed to know each other and encourage each other. After talking to a couple of the teachers it was clear that

They were doing what they love

They had jobs that paid their bills but on the side of their work they lived passionately and they do what they really enjoy. They were also

Respectful

toward one another and everyone entering the arena and

All ages and sexes were welcome

The oldest pupil was 63 and the youngest rolling around on his skateboard was under two years old.

It was lovely to see and be a part of this for one afternoon. They gave the possibility for a nine year old girl to shine and feel important. To learn new tricks and to be part of something bigger for just that little while.

Just like the Top Dressage Finland Gala was unforgettable for another girl. Encouraging and lifting each other up is just so important and something that we should work toward in all fields and sports. Being nice to someone is never away from someone else.

Heidi Pätsi is touching this subject from another angle in her blog post Ystävällisyys - hyvää ystävänpäivää

Thank you for being part of our lives! Happy Valentines!
